The first video depicts that joining the army doesn't take that much, and it shows that it's fun. The fact that they said, "What color is this green card?" and Donald responds with blue. I think it's trying to say that you don't have to have any intelligence to join the army.
The next video shows one of our favorite, well-known childhood story. The Three Little Pigs, and it portrays the evil big bad wolf as a Nazi. The last house in the original stories were always made of brick, but in this version they were made of war bonds. It's trying to say that war bonds will protect us from Hitler and his Nazis.
The next 5 videos follow the same general idea. They all show that we should continue to buy war bonds or to donate some kind of effort. They show the positive reasons why we should donate.
"The army isn't the army anymore. It's bigger and better than before" is the opening song to a Disney short film portraying Donald Duck getting drafted into WWII. Disney glorifies the war by making it humorous and gitty, by using known loved cartoon characters. They use propoganda to reasure Americans that everything will be fine as long as the "Keep their money fighting." By saying that, they’re saying they want Americans to go into their savings to give money towards the war which will "Lead to victory." Disney tries to relieve Americans of stress and worry by saying that buying war bonds and sending in cooking grease will help the soldiers. They are creating a false blanket of seccurity. A good example of this is in the short film with Adolf Hitler. They make jokes about him, and when he dies, he ends up in hell with the devil saying "It's not fair." This basically tells the audience not to worry, everything will be okay.
In the very first film, our beloved, temperish Donald Duck is pursuaded by flamboyant posters and ads, into joining the army. Sex appeal is used when it is showed that joining the army will have all the women after you like mad cows. This ad was created by Walt Disney mainly to create enthusiasm throughout his, mostly male, audience into actually joining the US army or military.
One legendary fairytale that has been told throughout the ages is the Three Little Pigs, which was partly changed to fit the criteria of war. In the short, "Thrifty Pig", the Big Bad Wolf is representing Hitler and his Nazi soldiers, and the piggies forecast the semi-intelligent americans that witness the terror. The Wolf blows down the houses of the weak, but his plans fail when he doesn't blow down the Third Pig's house made of WarBonds. The hidden message was about how americans are supposed to be a good civilian and help the war by funding the war in buying as many WarBonds as they could. It came to show that the pig who had bought the WarBonds are safe and those who do not are as good as fried kitties.
Not only was the advertisement and propaganda aimed at everyone in general, but to those who felt helpless and un-usefull. These people would be non-other than the housewives and farmers who were very much away from all the real action. Long films represented how the farmeres of the US were a big part of food suppliers of the good people enduring the war. The soldiers at war also ate their food, which said that the people who supplied food would help win the war. This excitement let farmers keep on working and doing what they did best. The housewives were extrememly pushed to save and sell their Cooking Grease to their local Meat Dealer for money. This would help the military and army create bullets, ammunition, bombs, and explosives which wouls be great help. So through the wise and convincing skill of advertisementing, millions of americans were taught that they could make a difference in winning or losing the war against Hitler. The Seven Dwarfs also depicted themselves spending their savings on WarBonds to help finance the war. The catchy slogan would be "FOUR for Five" which evidently stuck like crazy glue.
The first video that we watched was Donald Duck being drafted into the military. Of course no child is born saying I'm going to be a soldier, but in this video they make it seem like a blast. Even before entering the office you see all thse posters about " Everyone being friends," " brakfast in bed," and " being irresistable". This type of propaganda gained many views and mad people interested in war. The main reason for this was because donald Duck joined and made it look easy.
Furthermore another video we saw was the one about Thrifty Pigs. This story resembles the 3 little pigs. although the twist to the story was that the big bad wolf was a Nazi. In addition the house of bricks was made out of war bonds. War bonds were used as bricks to help support the war. A couple of other videos also talked about war bonds. There was also a video about saving used grease. Tis was used to help build explosive and help soldiers out at the front line.
The disney video revolved around WWII and how back then they had short film cartoons trying to draw people in to join the war. Many of the cartoon characters were well known by people so by them showing informative, yet funny films this made the viewers want to watch even more. One of the cartoons that was shown was of donald duck and how he was getting drafted into the army. They made the cartoon so funny that even I would want to join.Another was of the three little pigs urging us in a funny way to buy war bombs because it funds the war.Next, was of the seven wise dwarfs wanting people to buy war savings certificates. The last two were just simple cartoons to tell people to keep doing their jobs at home, especially farmers. The last cartoon was telling people at home to save frying grease because it makes explosives for the war. Many of the things I saw in the video were things I didnt even know helped the army.I would never have watched something like this if it wasn't in this cartoon, this video informed me about alot.
The films that we watched were all for the army. It trys to convince people how we should give the military our money. They did it in a kid friendly way so that all people would see the good in it. They used all the disney charcters in the hopes that you would see your favorite one and follow there actions. For me the donald duck video was the only film i saw that was against the army. It also showed the side of false advertisment that started to develope and still going on to this day. Another video that caught my attention was the grease video. The reason i liked it was because it wasnt asking for money or peoples life savings. It was showing how little things like saving your bacon grease could help the troops. That is my summary on these videos.
The war videos tried to express many different things to the American People of the time. One was that Americans should enlist in the Armed forces and the movie did this with enormous amounts of advertising. This was shown in the first video we watched on Donald Duck and his experience of joining the military. Another was portraying Hitler as a bad person and that the Americans should win the war against the Germans and the Axis powers. This was done in the 3 little pigs video. Another statement the cartoon shows were trying to communicate to the people of America was to support the war by buying war bonds. They stated this in the Cartoon about the seven dwarves mining for valuable jewels and traded the Jewels for war bonds. The point of the Cartoons in whole was to explain the war, support it and to try to contribute the American success of the war.
All the videos we watched for ww II were just a thing to lure you in to joining the military. With kids watching these made them thing the military was the best thing to go in to whether it’s the air force, army, navy, or merinos. Everything at this time was for the war. To help feed, supply, cloth and other thing to help the forces be more successful to win. Coming across with cartoons from Walt Didney was a great ideal for him. This gave Americans a better point of views to join the military. It the end they cartoons did what they’re supposed to do to get more civilians in the arm forces.
Walt Disney made cartoons during WWII as advertisements. Which either said to donate money or join the Army. In one cartoon, Donald wants to get drafted because of the posters he saw about the Army. When the cartoon finished, the moral was anyone can join the Army.
The videos we saw were created by Walt Disney as propaganda to get more people in the US military. In the first video we see Donald Duck who like most people didn't know what to do at the time. When he sees all the great posters and all the stuff that the Army offers, he wants to join right away. The thruth is that the Army was stretching out the truth a bit to far. They just wanted more and more people to joing the military to fight the war. Other things we saw Walt Disney do is make comercials about advertising War Bonds. It was the only way for the government to fund the war.
